There is something wonderfully romantic about getting married among the vines. Tucked away on Botley Road in Shedfield, between Wickham and Botley, Wickham Estate is a working vineyard with rows of vines, a rustic barn and plenty of countryside charm. It is a gorgeous choice for couples who want a relaxed, rural celebration with a touch of elegance. Here is my guide to planning a Wickham Estate wedding, from the ceremony options to the best spots for photographs.

About the Vineyard
The estate covers around forty acres of vines and countryside, with the converted Old Winery at its heart. The barn has a lovely mix of exposed timber, high ceilings and big doors that open onto the grounds, so the space feels light and airy in summer and cosy in the cooler months.
The setting is ideal if you love natural, relaxed photographs. Rows of vines create beautiful leading lines and texture, and the open landscape gives us soft, even light for much of the day. A Wickham Estate wedding feels like a long, warm afternoon in the countryside, with good food, good wine and the people you love.
Ceremony Options
One of the things couples love most is choice. The estate offers several ceremony locations, including outdoor options among the greenery, so you can say your vows in the open air when the weather is kind. There are indoor alternatives too, which gives you peace of mind if the forecast is unsettled.
Ask the venue team about capacities, how the day flows between spaces and what happens if you need to move your ceremony inside at short notice. Planning that backup early makes for a calmer morning.
Photo Spots at a Wickham Estate Wedding
- The vines. Endless rows for romantic walks, couple portraits and confetti.
- The Old Winery. Rustic timber and big doorways for natural light.
- The grounds. Open lawns for group photos and relaxed games.
- Close-up details. Bottles, glasses, grapes and flowers for styled detail images.
The vines change through the seasons, which means every celebration here looks a little different. Spring brings fresh green growth, summer is lush and full, and early autumn often brings heavy bunches of grapes and golden leaves. That seasonal change gives your photographs a real sense of time and place, whatever month your Wickham Estate wedding falls in.

Golden Hour Among the Vines
If there is one thing I would recommend, it is a short walk through the vineyard around sunset. The low sun backlights the leaves and creates a warm, glowing atmosphere that is perfect for romantic portraits. It only takes ten or fifteen minutes, and it gives you a quiet moment together away from the party. Have a look at my guide to golden hour wedding photos for more inspiration.
Planning Tips
Vineyards are rural, so think about practicalities. Grass and gravel paths can be tricky in stilettos, so block heels or flats for the walk to the vines are a good idea. Arrange transport for guests, as taxis can be in short supply in the countryside late at night, and check whether you can use your own suppliers for food, drink and styling.
Many couples choose to serve the estate’s own wines during their Wickham Estate wedding breakfast and toasts, which is a lovely touch and a great talking point for guests. Ask about tastings in advance so you can choose your favourites together.
Weather Backup
As with any outdoor-focused venue, have a plan B. The barn gives you a beautiful indoor option, and rain does not have to spoil your photographs. Clear umbrellas, a few moody skies and some cosy candlelit interiors can look wonderful. My guide to rainy day wedding photos has lots of reassurance, and a showery Wickham Estate wedding can be just as beautiful as a sunny one.
Nearby Accommodation
Wickham, Botley and Bishop’s Waltham all have pubs and guest houses, and Fareham, Southampton and Winchester are a short drive away. If you have lots of guests travelling, a list of local options in your invitations will be appreciated.
